Delone Catholic High School
Track & Field, Cross Country
FAST FACTS: A talented athlete and competitor, Leanne has been an integral part of the running culture at Delone since her arrival as a freshman four years ago. She has run track and cross country each year, breaking a number of school records along the way. The versatile senior competes in a variety of outdoor events: the 400 meters, 800 meters, 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters, as well as the 4×400 and 4×800 relays. Which one is her favorite?
“It’s the 800,” she said. “I’m not sure why, but I get such a runner’s high from it, way more than any other event I run.”
A seasoned veteran, Sneeringer enjoyed a great deal of success, including competing at the state level in the 800. When asked to recall a favorite moment of her time on the track, she points to the glory of a team success she helped to secure.
“My greatest memory from track is breaking my school’s 4×800 record my sophomore year. The team consisted of Kate Mowrey, Alyssa Alberghini, Natalie Wildasin and myself. We are all still very good friends and pushed each other so we could all be successful together.”
In her final year as a Squire, Sneeringer looks to round out her career with another successful outdoor campaign. She plans to attend UMBC in the fall to study biology. Her goal is a career as a physical therapist.
IN HER OWN WORDS: “I got into track because in sixth grade, when we ran a timed mile in gym class, I absolutely crushed all of the boys and their egos, and have loved running ever since.”
FAVORITE SUBJECT(S): “Statistics. It puts actual words into math, unlike other math courses, which are just a bunch of letters, numbers and nonsense to me. I also really enjoy science classes.
FROM A FAVORITE FAN: “She has had an accomplished running career; a state qualifier in both cross country and track” said Dustin Lehr, head coach of the track team at Delone. “She owns or is part of three outdoor and two indoor school records. On top of her accomplishments, she is a tremendous leader and example of our program. We are lucky to have her.”
